VDEM Chief Deputy State Coordinator Janet Clements is retiring from VA State Government after 30 years

VDEM Chief Deputy State Coordinator Janet Clements is retiring from VA State Government after 30 years, the last 25 with VDEM. Ms Clements joined VDEM in 1984 as a Public Information Officer was selected as Director of VDEM Public Affairs Office in 1999 and appointed as VDEM Chief Deputy State Coordinator in 2002. During her tenure with the agency, she responded to 28 presidential disasters including Hurricane Isabel, the terrorist attack on the Pentagon in 2001 and numerous other incidents. As Chief Deputy State Coordinator, Ms Clements was responsible for overseeing Operations, Preparedness, Training and Exercise, Local Support Services, Technological Hazards and Public Affairs. She served as Virginia's emergency management representative on the National Capitol Region's Senior Policy Group for Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and was a member of the Commonwealth Preparedness Working Group as well as numerous task forces and committees focused on strengthening Virginia's all-hazard preparedness, response and recovery efforts.
